Personal Statement  My focus as a faculty member in the division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is practicing and teaching the values specific to this profession: compassion, respecting boundaries, valuing individuals, practicing self-reflection, and maintaining a fascination with the myriad ways development can unfold. I strive to provide excellent care for the children of Indiana who are referred to my unit for adolescent boys at Larue Carter Hospital, which is also the place where I provide training for medical students, psychiatry residents and fellows.

Current Academic Interests  Teaching: I am involved in teaching long term psychodynamic psychotherapy principles to child fellows, basic competencies to first year medical students, and child and adolescent psychiatry inpatient practice to psychiatry residents and child fellows.

Clinical: I have interests in developmental trauma and affective/behavioral dysregulation, early manifestations of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, and complex pharmacotherapy for treatment resistant or co-morbid conditions due to my position as Medical Director of the Adolescent Boys Unit at Carter Hospital.

Research: I am interested in studying the value of the interpersonal element to learning, resident self assessment of teaching, and ways to enhance resident teaching.
